VICON RASA wheel dampers
Tuned VICON RASA wheel dampers on solid wheels, cutting rolling noise and curve squeal at the source.
VICON RASA wheel dampers are fixed to the areas of a solid wheel that vibrate the most. Individually tuned combinations of metal and elastomer plates generate a counterforce that converts the vibration into heat, damping both rolling noise and curve squeal.
Each set is tuned to the wheel by modal analysis and can be mounted radially or axially, directly on the wheel or on supporting segments. The damping characteristics stay constant up to the wear limit of the wheel, after which the dampers are reused on the new wheel.

Wheel dampers cut rolling noise by up to 6 dB(A) and curve squeal by up to 18 dB(A); on tested tram lines curve squeal is eliminated entirely.
Tuned on the wheel itself.
Each set of dampers is tuned to the wheel's resonant frequencies by modal analysis, measured in the laboratory or on site.
Constant to the wear limit.
The damping characteristics stay constant up to the wear limit of the wheel; after re-profiling the dampers are reused on the new wheel.
From trams to freight.
Used on trams, metros and mountain railways as well as locomotives, freight wagons and coaches. Heat-resistant versions for block-braked freight wheels are tested to ISO 3095.
