VICON AMSA rail dampers

Tuned VICON AMSA rail dampers clamped to the rail web, cutting broadband rolling noise at the source in the track.

VICON AMSA rail dampers are tuned mass-dampers clamped to the rail web. They reduce broadband rolling noise at its source and slow the formation of rail corrugation.

Each damper is adapted to the rail profile (e.g. UIC 60), excited on a laboratory test track with a shaker that simulates a passing train, and tuned to the frequency range in which the rail radiates the most noise. That individual tuning makes the dampers suitable for ballasted track, ballastless track and high-speed lines.

Benefits

Noise reduction

An average of 2 – 6 dB(A).

Measurements across a wide range of tracks back an average reduction of 2 – 6 dB(A), with around 300.000 dampers sold by Kampa.

Tuning

Tuned to the dominant frequencies.

Each rail damper is adapted to the rail profile, excited on a laboratory test track and tuned to the frequency range that radiates the most noise.

Maintenance

Maintenance-free, no interference.

Rail dampers need no maintenance. Their heat-resistant components tolerate rail grinding, and tamping machines work without interference. At end of life the dampers are dismounted and recycled.

Installation

Clamped, not glued.

Rail dampers go on with a simple assembly tool, an installation crew fits about 300 m of track per hour. On rail replacement they come off and go back onto the new rail.
